Indie-made Craft Market
debut of Human Ivory jewelry
Mood: delectably excited!
Before the craft market, I've only heard feedback on my current body of work from immediate family, friends, and professors. I've watched my work excite others, as it does myself, in a way that I know people appreciate shock value and a well crafted object. Old, young, male, female, artistic or not... I was pleased with the way people perceived my work and reacted on impulse. The following comments were recorded from behind my craft table. The comments started out pretty bland, but people circled their way back to my table and told me what they really thought. I figured it took some time for it all to sink in.
Interesting.
Looks like bone.
A riot.
Unique, truly unique.
Really???
Holy crap.
You should be in Ripley's Believe-It-or-Not !
It's like tying flies like a fisherman.
Pretty cool in the most gross way!
Hold on. I'm boggled.
I thought they were fossils.
Oh my lord. Oh my...oh my...oh my god.
Good for you, for that idea. That's crazy.
You're unusual.
Who would have thought? I guess you.
Do you get manicures?
This is astounding.
You need to break the world in for this. One fingernail critter at a time. We're not ready.
This. Is. Very. Different.
You are challenging what we think is art.
Out of all the vendors here, you and your art are evoking the most feeling. People are talking about your
work all over, and everyone has something different to say. You are really MAKING us think.
Holy Hell.
You have too much time on your hands.
Hysterical!
So disgusting it's awesome.
It was a very successful day! I sold 5 pieces and got two custom-orders. I met AMAZING people. I got excellent advice from individuals in the art teaching profession. And I plan on promoting and participating in the Indie-made Craft Market again.
Looking forward to the next one,
Rachel!
